La forêt de Troncais This 10,600 ha forest is considered to be the most beautiful oak forest in Europe. It offers unforgettable hiking pleasure, where you will see deer, roe deer, wild boar and countless birds of prey. The mountain bikers can also enjoy the marked routes. In addition, the forest has 5 large lakes, two of which are provided for swimming and beach fun with a playground and water slide.
Places to visit
Sights Gallo-Roman site in Drevant: This Gallo-Roman site is being completely dug up and testifies to the activities that were already there 2000 years ago. During the summer months the site can be visited for FREE with a guide.
Noirlac Abbey: This model of the art of the Cistercians, built around 1150, is one of the best preserved abbeys in Europe. It radiates the perfection of precepts, a monumental architecture focused on purity and light.
Château d'Ainay-le-Vieil: This historic medieval castle on the "Route Jacques Coeur" was purchased by Charles de Chevenon de Bigny in 1467 and has remained within the same family ever since. Behind the 17th century pavilions is a 7-hectare park, laid out in the 19th century.
Château de Meillant: Here the influence of the Italian Renaissance is explicitly present, as depicted by the 8-angled tower "Le Lion", the work of Fra Jocondo.
